Asbestos again, yet more: It now seems that the EU has told the UK to change its asbestos laws as they curremntly exempt some maintenance and repair activities. Don't hold your breath, as with the HSE currenntly in the process of cutting back by 30% we can't see anything happening during this reporting period. As ever we will........

Snow and severe weather affecting the North of England and Scotland at the moment has caused us to re allocate staff who are responding to emergency and urgent customer calls first. This may cause us to postpone routine and non emergency work until the weather returns to something better than it is now (normal?). As ever our helpline is available and we have a duty officer on standby to take your calls or respond to your e mails. Thank you Ian and the team.

Lord Young's report has arrived after a lot of hype. We here at GD after looking at the report are wondering what all the fuss was about. From our customer's point of view there will be no change. The HSE are going to set up a consultants list to ensure, what? We are not quite sure. If the HSE want less paperwork perhaps they should be leading the way by setting out what is not needed. It would be useful if they communicated this to their inspectors. It is encouraging for us all at GD and GD Rail to note that the policy of RISK MANAGEMENT we adopted in 2003 has been picked up at last by Lord Young. We will keep you updat..............
